Rashad Janahi speaks at World Economic Forum, Dalian – China

Dalian, China – Rashad Janahi, Managing Director of Abu Dhabi Investment House was a notable speaker at the World Economic Forum (Summer Davos), Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2009. taking place in Dalian, China 10 – 12 September 2009. The conference is attended by leaders, presidents, executives and decision makers of various global corporations who are members of the World Economic Forum.

Janahi addressed the main topic ‘Financing Global Growth: Time for a New Paradigm?’ by highlighting the need to have transparency within the financial sector and adapting strong Risk Management tools. He commented, ‘one of the main reasons for the recent economic crisis is the over-exposure to the debt market, where numerous defaults took place. We can now treat that by converting debt to equity through equity sharing between the government and the private sector.’ Other ideas discussed were the need to define a value system within all institutions as well as encourage increased communication that is clear and transparent.

Answering a question about difficulty in raising funds, Janahi commented ‘we were able to raise a significant amount of funds during the first 4 months of the year. The investment opportunities offered and the good reputation we enjoy and trusted by investors enabled us to achieve our objectives and targets, despite market conditions. Investors are still cautious and lost confidence in the market. However, they are also intelligent investors who recognize a good opportunity when presented.
